“We only protect what we love, and we only love what we know”

Jacques Cousteau

Thank you very much for participating in the NATURE AND HUMANS Contest 2024!

This year, we have broken our participation record, with a 30% increase in the number of photographs submitted – more than 2,800 – compared to 2023.

Photographers from 48 countries have registered on the contest platform, which fills us with joy. Being still a very young contest, we are starting to have a real international projection. We would like to thank all of you from all these countries:

Argentina Austria Australia Bangladesh Belgium Bolivia Brazil Bulgaria Canada Chile China Colombia Croatia Ecuador Egypt France French Guiana Germany Greece Hungary India Indonesia Iran Italy Japan Luxembourg Mexico Morocco New Zealand Norway Pakistan Peru Poland Portugal Puerto Rico Singapore South Africa Spain Sri Lanka Sweden Switzerland Thailand Turkey United Kingdom United States Uruguay Virgin Islands.

Very soon, we will start showing some of the finalist images.

Current News:

We have the immense pleasure to announce that the super-famous photojournalist Ami Vitale joins the Jury of our NATURE AND HUMANS Photography Contest. Ami will be the main judge for the special prize ‘Nature, narrated by Women’, together with Melissa Schäfer and Lianna Nixon.

Ami Vitale needs little introduction… She is one of the world’s most renowned wildlife photographers; she has received multiple awards (including the World Press Photo, on at least four occasions), and has been repeatedly published in the best international media, especially in National Geographic. Today, among many other projects, Ami runs Vital Impacts, a women-led non-profit project that uses art and storytelling to support people and organisations that protect our planet.

It is a great honour for us to have Ami on the Jury; having her vast experience in conservation photojournalism, and her unique photographic sensibility, will be a luxury for all participants.

ETHICAL CODE

Respect for nature must prevail over any activity carried out in the natural environment. This code of ethics is the declaration of basic principles for the practice of our activity established by AEFONA in order to urge all its partners and followers to assume it as a personal commitment.

We reward images that help us reflect on the relationship, positive or negative, of human beings with the natural environment.

We also want to celebrate the immense beauty of our planet and the species that inhabit it.
